The Official #RPGaDay Meme

For the eleventh post of the #RPGaDay meme, I get to try and define what “weird” means to me.

Actually, scanning my RPG folder on Google Drive, this one wasn’t very hard at all. It might not be “weird” to you, but it is to me: diceless RPGs. Not storygames, mind you, but roleplaying games that just don’t have an arbitration mechanic besides “whose stat is higher?”

I’ve picked up Lords of Gossamer and Shadow in both softcover and PDF form (initially thanks to a sale, I believe). In theory, the concept sounds awesome. No more being a slave to a wonky dice roll. No more letting the mechanics muddle up a narrative scene. But at the same time, I feel somewhat at a loss for gamemastering without a randomization element. I know I can compare a combination stats, extras, description, etc., but how do I set adversaries’ stats without it feeling arbitrary that “this guy is better than the PC”? It’s something I’m still grappling with.

Any diceless GMing advice or resources you can point me to would be awesome. What is your weirdest RPG owned?
