31 Days of NaNoPrepMo: Day 15

31 Days of NaNoPrepMo: Day 15 Day 15: What will you listen to while you’re writing? Writing habits. We’re almost halfway there! Now for something a little bit easier and more fun for today’s prompt. A lot of writers use soundtracks to get them in the writing mood and inspired to write a particular scene or character. You can even use a specific track to signal to your brain that it’s time to start writing (use the Pavlovian response for good!). Action Plan: Either start organizing some playlists on iTunes or Youtube account, or grab a free account on Spotify or...

February RPG Blog Carnival: How and Where I Write and/or Game Prep

February RPG Blog Carnival: How and Where I Write and/or Game Prep Leicester’s Ramble is hosting February’s RPG Blog Carnival, and this month’s topic is “How and Where You Write and/or Game Prep.” Given my current projects–two RPG campaigns and one unfinished novel–I figured I had plenty to write about for this one. Where I Write/Prep Game My boyfriend and I thought it was worth the extra $100 plus a month to get a two bedroom apartment. The second bedroom serves as our office with both our desks, computers, printers, bookshelves, etc., as well as the game closet and a futon for reading or...

Day 16: Investigation and Mysteries

Day 16: Investigation and Mysteries My first real roleplaying game campaign was Dark Heresy in 2008, which my friend had managed to pick up during its immediately-sold-out first print run by Black Industries. Dark Heresy was also the first game I ran myself as a fledgling GM later that year. It was serendipitous that I was able to introduce my boyfriend to the Warhammer Universe and roleplaying itself during the Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta, which as you might have heard is being revamped for rerelase next month! When asked to describe Dark Heresy in only a few words, I immediately think...

RPG Sound-flash: Yoshida Brothers

RPG Sound-flash: Yoshida Brothers My dad listens to that craziest shit, but sometimes those internet radio stations of his pay off. Just as I was finishing chores to prepare for tonight’s Turkey Fest the Yoshida Brothers came on, and I knew I’d found the new soundtrack to Sasarindō, Blood & Honor, and Legend of the Five Rings, among others. A few of my favorite tracks: Some of the tracks are slightly campy/new age/jazzy, depending on your taste in music, but overall I’ve had a hard time finding suitable instrumental tracks that aren’t from movies (Kurosawa’s...

Sounds of the Desert Part 2

Sounds of the Desert Part 2 Back in June I posted the first half of this post, and finally I’ve gotten around to finishing up the draft of the second part. Though Marrakesh no longer runs, I sometimes find myself coming back to this playlist when I’m writing, or when I was running Ashes of Athas, a Dark Sun module by Baldman games. Anyway, this second half tends to feature more fighting and chase music, with a few marketplace themes thrown in for good measure, but the albums primarily supplement Erdernstern’s Into the Gold or Jesper Kyd’s Assassin’s Creed...
